Chrysler Recall: Vehicle Rollaway Due to ABS Malfunction

November 7, 2024

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) has issued a significant recall affecting 206,502 vehicles, including certain 2018-2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango models. A malfunction in the anti-lock brake system (ABS) module may cause incorrect illumination of the brake lights, disable the ABS and electronic stability control (ESC), and allow the vehicle to start and shift out of Park without applying the brake pedal.

Summary of the Recall

The ABS module malfunction can lead to several safety risks:

  • Vehicle Rollaway: The vehicle may start and shift out of Park without pressing the brake pedal, increasing the risk of unintended movement.
  • Disabled ABS and ESC: Disabling these systems can reduce vehicle handling and control, especially in certain driving situations.
  • Incorrect Brake Light Illumination: Brake lights may illuminate incorrectly, failing to signal the driver's intentions to following traffic.

Any of these scenarios elevate the risk of a crash or injury.
